At St Mary’s Independent we have an exceptional record of academic success. The foundation for learning starts in our nursery in pre-prep, where carefully designed play provides the best conditions for the introduction of reading, writing and number work. Pre-prep welcomes children from the age of 3.

We start the day at 8:15 am and finish at 4:00pm. Parents may choose from the following options:

  • A morning from 8:15 am to 12 noon (no lunch) at £24
  • A morning from 8:15 am to 1:00 pm (children bring their own lunch) at £28
  • A full day from 8:15 am to 4:00 pm (option of own packed lunch or free school hot meal) at £43

Activities are carefully planned to help children learn and succeed in an atmosphere of care and respect.  Continuity and regular patterns of attendance are the key to success. Initially we expect children to attend a minimum of 3 consecutive mornings (08:15 – 12:00).Two free pre-visits are offered prior to children starting Nursery.

Nursery Grants are available from the term following the child’s 3rd birthday. Please contact the school administrator Kay Hoile for more information on 02380 671267.

When our children leave nursery, they progress to our reception class, just a few metres way, where they already know their teachers and have played with the older children.

In the reception class, the children will continue to develop their social and interpersonal skills by listening, taking turns and becoming more independent. They will learn reading, writing and numeracy skills, together with a knowledge and understanding of the world, through the six areas of learning the EYFS (the Early Years Foundation Stage). Music, French and gymnastics are all part of the curriculum and a lovely outdoor area means that many activities can take place in the fresh air.

Our gym opens out onto our delightful playing fields, providing a secure campus within the magnificent grounds of St Mary’s Independent.
