Year 11 vs Staff Cricket June 2011

This year, the Year 11 students challenged the staff to a cricket match.  On Thursday, June 30th the challenge was accepted, and the 8 members of staff and one guest took on 10 students.  The students won the toss and chose to bat.  The staff opening attack of Bro. James and guest Adam Rolph proved too hot for the students to handle, reducing them to 5 wickets down for only 14 runs.  Bro. James was particularly impressive with opening figures of 2-0-5-3.  However, the match changed as Ben Dare and man of the match Ben Vandervelde took advantage of some loose deliveries from the change bowlers  to put on an unbroken century partnership.  Ben Vandervelde retired after reaching a well-deserved half-century.

The staff responded with their opening partnership of Mr. Lickley and Fr. Michael.  Accurate bowling and good fielding restricted the score, and wickets fell regularly as the staff regretted the superb coaching they had given the students in years gone by.  As time passed, the students closed in on victory, but were unable to force a win as a crucial dropped catch in the last over enabled  the last wicket pair of Rolph Snr and Rolph Jr. to hold out and achieve an honourable draw.
