Staff vs Parents Cricket Match – May 9th 2017

On Friday 9th  June parents battled against the staff in a cricket match, with the help of some former and current students.

This was to help raise funds for a battery pack for the recently purchased bowling machine, and play again on the one year old artificial wicket, kindly funded by the Parents Association.

The parents batted first with Mr Patel and Mark Jennings making an excellent partnership after Mr Woodlet was run out for a duck. Eventually Mr Patel retired on 26 after a fine innings. Soon after Mr Patel – Seb’s father – came in to bat immediately looking threatening. Mr Falvey was tasked with the job to bowl very slowly, tempting the batsmen to attempt to clear the heavily guarded square leg boundary. After hitting a four, the plan succeeded, and Mr Patel couldn’t resist, hitting high in the air straight to Mr Cheeseman, who took the catch. Thereafter, the run rate was reduced significantly with some excellent bowling from Tony Adams and Mr Sadler. The parents tried to accelerate the scoring making some lavished shots before another catch was taken from Mr Cheeseman off Tony Adams fine bowling. Special mention must also go to Alex Roberts, Dylan Kirkwood, Charlie Rolph, Harvey Chilana and Toby Winter who all bowled well. Mark Jennings and Seb Patel both finished not out, with the parents finishing on 79 for the loss of 4 wickets in 16 overs.

In response, Mr Falvey and Dr K made a good start to the staff innings scoring 25 between them before retiring.  Lee Farminer and Harvey Chilana replaced them planning to increase the run rate with some big hitting. Unfortunately Harvey got out cheaply (Mr Goodlet taking the wicket); but Mr Farminer stayed in for a while making some big hits, despite having never played the game. Mr Adamson, and H Patel kept the score respectable, before former students Dylan Kirkwood and Alex Roberts accelerated away. The father and son duo of Mr Patel and Seb made a big difference, both taking wickets. However, it was too late by then and the staff only needed a couple of runs an over to win the game. Tony Adams rotated the strike well, with Mr Winter finishing off the game with a boundary; the staff winning by 7 wickets.

The players and spectators were very grateful to the parents association who provided an excellent barbecue between innings.  Special thanks must go to Pritti Aggarwal who coordinated all the refreshments and the parents’ team.

Much appreciation must also go to the umpires, Mr Owen and Mr Jennings and our resident photographer Father Michael.
