Sam Kirkwood – AFC Bournemouth

Sam Kirkwood has just been awarded a two year scholarship with AFC Bournemouth and will train and play in the Under 18 Youth Team as he serves his apprenticeship. He will attend the stadium at Dean Court all week for training, gym work, spa sessions and theory lessons in the newly completed classrooms with matches played on Saturdays and mid-week against other youth teams across the UK. Bournemouth Youth Team compete with the best in the country including Chelsea, West Ham and Saints who they drew 2-2 with earlier this month.  He earned his place on the squad with dedication and hard work facing fierce opposition from some excellent players. As an apprentice he will be offered an apartment next to the stadium as well as a salary!

Sam has been with AFC Bournemouth for one year since being scouted at his highly successful football club Townhill, managed by ex-saints player, Gordon Watson. For the last three years he also played for Southampton Schoolboys representing St. Mary‘s College. Last year’s achievements include:

Winners –  English Schools FA Southern Counties League 2010 – 2011

Winners –  U15 Hampshire Schools FA Charlton League 2010 – 2011

Winners –  Hampshire Schools FA U15 Pickford Shield 2010 – 2011

He was also selected for the Hampshire Under 16 team earlier this year.
