Modern Foreign Language Trips 2012

Modern Languages Department Trips 2012

A letter has been given out to all pupils in Years 9 and 10 about two trips which are to take place next year.
The German trip, from 10th to 13th February 2012, will be a three-night stay in Aachen. Travel will be by coach via Calais; Aachen is four hours’ drive from Calais. Accommodation will be at a youth hostel, which is modern and comfortable. There will be a programme of educational visits, such as a treasure hunt around Aachen, a visit to Cologne, to include the Imhoff-Stollwerck chocolate factory and the Cathedral, and a trip on the funicular railway at Drachenfels. Students who are taking German to GCSE will do some language work to help towards their controlled assessments.
The French trip, from 30th March to 2nd April, will also be a three-night stay, and will be in Normandy. Travel will be by ferry from Portsmouth to Caen and then by coach. Details about accommodation will be confirmed, depending on how many pupils go on the trip; we will either stay in a small chateau or a small hotel. Details of excursions have yet to be finalised, again depending on numbers. There are plenty of different options, such as a trip to the Normandy beaches at Arromanches, visits to various local artisans producing chocolate, cheese, cider and bread, a treasure hunt around a seaside town, etc. Students will be given plenty of opportunity to use their language in interactive situations and they will do some project work to help towards their controlled assessments.
The trip is being run by STS school travel service; they have extended the deadline for deposit payments of £35 to Friday 13th May. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Adam if you have any questions about the trips.
