Lenten Journey – Week 4
Life would be very dull if we could only communicate in words. Words are not enough in themselves to say all we want to say. We need signs and symbols that can express something further. An open front door is a sign that suggests we are welcome, a smile says we are happy, the way we shake hands can indicate many things, the red sanctuary lamp tells us that Jesus is present in the tabernacle. There are signs and symbols everywhere we turn. They can serve to express things that are beyond words. Some of them have been used for so long that their history is very precious, a part of our heritage. The Stations of the Cross are among the most powerful of these signs.
