Thank-you to year 7 and Fr Michael for the re-enactement of the papal conclave held last week, the students gained an enjoyable and informative insight into one of the oldest institutions for electing a leader. The students did not elect a new Bishop of Rome, but rather a new Bishop of St Mary’s. The white smoke rising from the College Chapel on Friday, after 40 mins of intense discussion and the three phases of voting, indicated that their choice had been made. The necessary two-thirds supermajority vote was achieved by Joe (Pope Jimmy).
Finally the senior Cardinal Deacon (James) announced the results to the awaiting crowds:
Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum:
Eminentissimum ac Reverdissimum Dominum,
Sanctae Romanae Ecclesiae Cardinalem Joe,
qui sibi nomen imposuit Jimmy.
(perhaps students can look up the translation?)
The College community offers its prayers on Monday morning for His Holiness Pope Francis as he begins his papacy.
