ESU Regional Final

Following their fantastic success in the first regional heat at St Mary’s in December, our Year 11 Public Speaking team headed off after school yesterday for the Regional Final, hosted by Bishop Wordsworth Grammar School in Salisbury. Accompanied by Mr O’Farrell and official team time-keeper, Alice Lawton, the team reprised their roles from the previous round, with Annie Ramkumar speaking on ‘Domestic Robots’ (introduced and questioned by South Wiltshire Grammar School), and with Jack Weaver acting as ‘Chair’ and introducing the speaker from Winchester College, with Alex Lopez asking the questions.

The standard of the whole evening was very high, with Bishop Wordsworth’s team winning through to the South of England Final in Devon in March. The judges said that any of the teams would have won most other rounds they had attended, but were unlucky to have had to face each other. To cap a very heartening evening, Alex Lopez was awarded an individual prize for the being the ‘Best Questioner’ of the evening.

Mr O’Farrell would like to thank all team-members for their hard-work, motivation and good-humour and hopes that next year’s teams will be able to build upon these successes!
