Classics – Trip to London

On Wednesday, Feb. 8th, the Classics GCSE Group went on a visit to London.  In between vast amounts of fast food, they were able to visit the British Museum, and take in a Greek Tragedy. At the British Museum, they were able to examine the Elgin Marbles, which gave clues to the Athenians’ worship of the gods, as well as enhancing their knowledge of everyday Athenian life through looking at Greek pots, as well as other artefacts.

After a short interlude at Covent Garden, they watched a performance of Euripides’ Hippolytus at the Bloomsbury Theatre.  It is a story of forbidden love, revenge and suffering all caused by showing disrespect to the gods.  Although it was a long day, the students found the experience to be useful and enjoyable.
