St. Mary’s College celebrated CAFODs Family Fast Day
St Mary’s College celebrated CAFODs (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) Family Fast day with an ECO-CARNIVAL on the 6th March 2009. The aim of the day was to promote the use of fair trade and organic food, raise money for CAFOD and have a fantastic time doing it! The total raised was a fantastic £760.
The students at SMC gathered together and came up with a variety of fun ideas to raise money to help those in need in the developing world. Mrs K. Thom (the Head of Religious Education) and her Eco-Team organised and ran the whole day.
The day was launched by David Marchesi, a CAFOD volunteer, who led the morning assembly. At lunchtime, there where Fair Trade and Organic stalls selling smoothies, cakes, popcorn, a Chocolate fountain, coconut shy, ‘orange’ bobbing, face painting and much more. Many of the teachers adapted their lessons to incorporate the ECO theme or ran carnival themed competitions. The students made sure that everything they sold was as ethically friendly as possible.
As a community, SMC came together and showed that we care about those who need our help by raising money for those in the developing world.
