Annual Staff vs Year 11 Cricket Match

Match Report

Both teams were a little short of numbers, so the staff kindly gave them an old boy –Alex Roberts (senior cricketer of the Year 2014) to help them out.  In hindsight this wasn’t a wise move!  The Year 11’s batted first scoring a very healthy 163 runs off 20 overs.  The staff rotated their bowlers using seven in total.  Special mentions must go to Mr Rolph who rolled back the years bowling a fantastic four over spell, taking 1 wicket for the loss of only 6 runs.  Mr O’Farrell took two wickets with Piero, Ryan Long and Mr Winter taking the rest.  There were many fine batting performances from the Year 11’s; the usually conservative Dylan Kirkwood managed a quick fire 29, with Dan Wallis 18, Alex Roberts 15 and Billy Shiner 17 making valuable contributions.  Max Berg was the pick of the batsman scoring an impressive 38.

In response the staff tried their best to keep up with the run rate, finding difficult against some consistent bowling.  Mr Falvey blocked his way to 9 runs; padding every other ball (no L.B.W.’s were allowed)!  Mr Winter, Piero and Ryan Long tried to increase the run rate scoring 8, 11 and 10 respectively.  Mr Rolph and Mr Dillard were both run out (doesn’t bode well for the staff relay).  Mr Cheeseman tried his best to chase the total eventually finishing with 51 not out and falling short of the Year 11’s total by a mere 23 runs.  Dan Wallis, Dylan Kirkwood and Max Berg were their best bowlers all taking wickets.  Harvey also managed to get one, although conceded an awful lot of runs in the process (thanks Harvey).  Congratulations to the Year 11’s, a very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
