Admissions

Pre-prep, Prep and Senior school admissions begin with your visit to our school to experience our stimulating, educational environment and wonderful children. Should you wish to proceed, taster days will be arranged for your child to enjoy time with peers and for us to make informal assessments.

A formal letter offering a place will follow based on our assessments and up-to-date school reports (if appropriate). Application forms need to be completed at this point.

St Mary’s Independent School senior department entrance exam takes place in January each year. The date for this can be found on the general calendar on the home page.

Our senior department entrance exam serves two main purposes:

  • to determine the allocation of the academic scholarships
  • to help build a learning profile of the candidates

Where over application occurs, your name will be added to a waiting list in order of priority of application.

We take into account the learning needs of each individual and seek to match this with the teaching skills available. Although the school does not have a Special Needs Department we do provide limited learning support within the classroom and on a one-one basis when required. If you want to discuss your child’s learning needs prior to application please contact Kay Hoile, the school administrator on 02380 671267.

The sample papers below will help you understand the tests. A marking scheme is also available.

If you live overseas and wish to be a student at St Mary’s Independent School (3-16 years), we are registered as a Licenced Sponsor, Level 1, Tier 4 of the Point Based System – UK Border Agency.

To apply for a place at St Mary’s Independent School please complete the application form that can be found here.
